Organic education for kids

Organic education for kidsDid you know that a quiet revolution has been brewing in primary schools across Australia? Since the launch of the Organic School Gardens Program in 2010, this free organic gardening program has been boosting children’s skills and enthusiasm about an organic lifestyle.

The Australian Organic Schools program was launched by Australian Organic to teach children the benefits of organic – and give them the practical skills to grow their own healthy food. The free program offers online resources where teachers can learn how to create, grow and care for their own organic school garden. Lessons include planning and design of a school garden, soil health, cropping, harvesting, cooking and nutrition. While designed for school gardens, there’s no reason you can’t use this insight in your own backyard! With one in four Aussie kids now being obese and the temptation of easily available highly processed food, there is no better time to teach your kids (or yourself!) how to grow healthy food and the importance of connecting with the earth.
